  2.     Welcome to CallFinder.  CallFinder was developed in my spare time (which
  3. is a scarce commodity) over a period of two years.  I hope you find it
  4. worthwhile.  The following describes some of CallFinder's features.  CallFinder
  5. requires System 7.
  6.  
  7.     CallFinder supports lookups by call, name, QTH, and zip code.  Before
  8. performing any lookups, it is necessary to locate the databases for CallFinder.
  9. The first time you run CallFinder it will present a dialog box which allows
  10. you to select the folder containing the database files.  You will have the
  11. option of remembering this selection.  The remembered selection becomes the
  12. default location until another location is selected and saved.  Note that
  13. CallFinder can not be run from a write protected volume if you choose to
  14. preserve the database location.  The selection may be changes at ant time
  15. (either temporarily or permanently) by selecting "Locate Databases" from the
  16. File menu.  This feature allows you to copy one or more databases to your hard
  17. disk.  You can then select the CD-ROM temporarily to do lookups in all of the
  18. databases.  This feature means that the program is independent of changes to
  19. the volume label of the CD-ROM.  You select the path to the databases you choose
  20. to use.  Also note that CallFinder does NOT place a file in your Preferences
  21. folder.

  23.     Once the path to the databases has been set, CallFinder will search for all
  24. of the databases in the location specified.  The lookup for any database which
  25. is not found will be disabled in the file menu.  IF no databases are found, an
  26. error message will be displayed.

  28.     The strings for the name and QTH lookups are formatted as follows.  A "*"
  29. at the end of a string serves as a wild card character.  It causes all
  30. characters following the "*" to match the search target.  Any string not ending
  31. in a "*" will match exactly.  It is not necessary to enter a search string of
  32. "*" to match all values.  Just leave the string empty.  If you are searching
  33. for everyone named John Smith, it is advisable to enter the first name as
  34. "john *" to match all middle initials as well as "John Smith II".

  36.     The zip code database has one anomaly: hams who did not specify a zip code
  37. on their forms were given a zip code of 00000.  All zip code searches require
  38. a full five digit zip code.
  39.  
  40.     CallFinder allows you to copy the result of any search.  The currently
  41. displayed  call may be copied to the clipboard from the Edit menu.  The entire
  42. list of search results may be may also be copied to a file from the Edit menu.
  43. In either case the format of the data copied may be selected from the Format
  44. menu.  The file created is a text file.  You may set the file creator for the
  45. text file to the creator of your choice.  Use the Set Creator item in the Edit
  46. menu.  The default value is "R*ch" which corresponds to BBEdit (the value for
  47. Microsoft Word is MSWD).

  49.     At this time, only the US callsign database is supported.

  51. Changes in version 1.10:
  52.  
  53.     1.  You can now paste from the clipboard into edit text fields (e.g. to the
  54.         call sign field).
  55.  
  56.     2.    The position of each lookup window is preserved.
  57.  
  58.     3.    Callfinder now uses a preferences file.
  59.  
  60.     4.    Cross reference records in the databases are now properly handled.
  61.  
  62. Changes in version 1.20:

  64.     1.    Made searches more tolerant of badly formatted foreign entries in the US
  65.         callsign database.

  67.     2.    Added email address retrieval to searches.
